The major religions of the world rarely agree on anything. However, there has been a consensus among many of the world's major religions based on the need for protection from the evil eye. Each religion has its own theory of where the evil eye originated. Muslims believe that evil jewelry originated in Turkey. Christians claim it has come from Greece. The Jewish people think it has origins in the Middle East. What all of these religious groups believe is that if someone gives you the jinx of the evil eye it can bring you bad luck.
Protection from the evil eye can come in many different forms. Some people drape strings of the evil eye beads over their door to protect their homes from its curse. Many people also attach evil eye beads to safety pins on their baby’s diaper. It can even be attached to a key chain to protect you while you are driving. There are even evil eye trees.
Religious symbols are commonly used with the evil eye. The Islamic put the evil eye in the Hand of Fatima. This is worn as different pieces of jewelry or mounted on walls for protection. This is known as the Hamsa to the Jewish. The evil eye is also frequently found in the center of the Star of David and worn with the Kabbalah string bracelet. Christians sometimes wear the evil eye accompanied by a cross. Some Christians even pray with rosary beads made up of evil eyes.
While we may not know the true origin of the evil eye protector , we do know it goes back thousands of years and is accepted by many of the world’s major religions.
